This team is particularly interested in steppe and Saharan areas. Analyzing the organization and spatial dynamics of the phenomena (physical or human) that manifest themselves in this vast and constraining environment. It is a question of studying the interactions between man and his environment under a regional and social approach while attaching great interest to the problematic of the development.
The study area comprises mainly the western steppe region and the southwestern Sahara (Béchar&Adrar). Our methodological approach is based on observations and investigations carried out over nearly 20 years on the functioning of these spaces. This approach certainly has a regional geography dimension, but with an ambition that goes beyond the frameworks traditionally adopted by this type of approach. Using bid data, tools and concepts, we have opted for a vision of systemic analyses, on taking into account the interactions between population, economy and environment elements.
The analysis adopted is based on a concern for observation, measurement and modeling in order to understanding the processes of space organization. The team has always been involved in several national research and co-operation projects whose illustrated through the various publications (articles in national and international journals…).
